Youth Work Ireland Tipperary was proud to appear before the Joint Committee on Social Protection, Rural and Community Development in Leinster House this week, contributing directly to national discussions on the future of communities, services and supports across Ireland. The invitation to address the Committee represents an important recognition of the role that youth work plays in supporting young people, strengthening communities and promoting social inclusion.
The presentation highlighted the realities facing young people in Tipperary today, including the need for sustained investment in youth services, accessible supports in rural communities, and opportunities for young people to participate meaningfully in decisions that affect their lives.
Youth Work Ireland Tipperary emphasised that youth work is more than a service, it is an essential investment in the wellbeing, resilience and potential of young people. Every day, youth workers and volunteers across County Tipperary create safe spaces where young people can develop confidence, build relationships, explore their identities and contribute positively to their communities.
Appearing before the Oireachtas Committee provided an opportunity to showcase the impact of youth work and to advocate for policies that recognise the value of preventative, community-based approaches to supporting young people. Youth Work Ireland Tipperary welcomed the constructive engagement from Committee members and the opportunity to share the experiences, challenges and aspirations of the young people and communities we work alongside.
Youth Work Ireland Tipperary reemains committed to ensuring that the voices of young people are heard at local, regional and national level. Their perspectives are vital in shaping policies that foster inclusion, wellbeing and opportunity for all.
