Oíche na hÓige: Youth Work Ireland Members Open Their Doors to Celebrate Youth Work for All

Across Ireland, youth centres are preparing to open their doors for something special Oíche na hÓige, a national celebration of youth work taking place on Friday, November 21st.

This exciting new initiative from the Department of Education and Youth will see youth services, clubs, and projects come together to celebrate the creativity, connection, and contribution of young people in their communities.

For Youth Work Ireland and its network of 20 member youth services, Oíche na hÓige is more than just a night of events it’s a moment to showcase the heart of what youth work is all about and to share a message central to our work: Youth Work for All.

Celebrating Youth Work for All

At the heart of Oíche na hÓige is the belief that youth work is an essential community resource that supports young people to grow, belong, and thrive. The Youth Work for All campaign, led by Youth Work Ireland, calls for recognition and investment in inclusive youth work so that every young person, regardless of background, identity, or location, can access quality youth spaces and supports in their community.

Oíche na hÓige offers a perfect opportunity to amplify this message, to celebrate the achievements of young people and youth workers, and to highlight how youth work strengthens communities across Ireland every single day.

Creativity, Connection, and Community

On November 21st, Youth Work Ireland member services across the country will host a vibrant range of events, from open nights and creative showcases to performances, art exhibitions, and youth-led workshops. Visitors can expect to see:

  • Performances and exhibitions created by young people through arts, music, and digital media;
  • Workshops and open spaces where communities can learn more about youth work;
  • Storytelling and discussions celebrating the positive impact of youth work on wellbeing and belonging;
  • Moments of gratitude for the youth workers and volunteers who make these spaces possible.

Every event will carry one shared message: Youth Work for All — because every young person deserves a place to belong.

A National Night of Belonging

Oíche na hÓige isn’t just about celebration, it’s also about connection. It’s a reminder that youth work builds stronger, more inclusive communities by supporting young people to find their voice and make a difference.
