Dublin Castle was buzzing with energy, ideas, and passion as over 400 young people from across the country gathered for the 2025 Comhairle na nÓg National Showcase — and Youth Work Ireland was proud to see our members right at the heart of it.
Young people from Youth Work Ireland’s member youth services took to the national stage to represent their local Comhairlí and shine a light on the issues that matter most to their peers. From mental health and climate justice to education reform and equality, these inspiring young advocates made their voices heard in front of some of the country’s most influential decision-makers.
The event, hosted by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY), brought together the Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Foley, senior government officials, and elected representatives for a day of meaningful engagement with Ireland’s youth. With Fionnuala Jones as MC, the Showcase gave young people aged 12–17 the opportunity to speak truth to power — and they didn’t hold back.
“Comhairle na nÓg provides young people across the country with the opportunity to have their voices heard,” said Taoiseach Micheál Martin. “It is of the utmost importance that we consider their inputs, and keep their futures in mind, in all of our Government’s work.”
Minister Norma Foley echoed this sentiment, adding: “Today’s event gives young people an excellent opportunity to speak directly with policymakers and government representatives. It’s been inspiring to witness it first-hand.”
Throughout the day, young people participated in panel discussions, exhibitions, and networking sessions, discussing challenges they face and proposing ideas for change. What stood out was the level of confidence, insight, and collaboration shown by young people — many of whom are involved in Youth Work Ireland’s local youth services.
“The most important aspect of the Comhairle Showcase is connection,” shared Connor Knapp from Cork City Comhairle na nÓg. “It allows young people from all over the country to connect with each other, to share ideas and perspectives, and most of all, to connect with decision-makers.”
The 2025 Comhairle na nÓg Showcase wasn’t just a moment — it was a movement. It reinforced what Youth Work Ireland has long championed: when young people are given a platform, they lead with vision, courage, and purpose.
We are incredibly proud of the young people from our member services who took part in this national platform. Their leadership, creativity, and advocacy are shaping not just the future — but the present — of youth policy and participation in Ireland.
