Youth Work Ireland’s Innovative Practice Group identifies and supports youth work innovation in response to Covid-19. Since the beginning of the pandemic youth work has had to respond to the continued needs of young people in a safe way, which has resulted in a lot more youth work activities and sessions taking place outdoors. This has meant programmes that would have normally taken place in an indoor setting, contining outdoors and also youth workers taking advantage of outdoor settings to engage with young people through the natural environment.
We know that youth workers are creative, adaptable and ingenuous and many innovations are taking place to meet the new challenges and opportunities in working outdoors while supporting the needs and aspirations of the young people.
This informal symposium will provide an opportunity for staff and managers to begin to share and document these innovations. Moving on from the symposium, Youth Work Ireland proposes to further highlight, share and promote the work across the country during Youth Work Ireland Week 2021 (Monday March 29th – Sunday 4th April ).
