Youth Work Ireland is delighted to announce that at the 33rd General Assembly of ERYICA – The European Youth Information and Counselling Agency held in Barcelona, Spain, 11-13th May 2022, our CEO, Dr Patrick Burke, was elected the new president.
His election is testament to the high esteem in which the provision of quality Youth Information in Ireland is held internationally. It also acknowledges the huge work that the Youth Information sector in Ireland has contributed to the development of the ERYICA Youth Information and Quality Label. The ERYICA Task force which developed the label (supported by the Council of Europe), was chaired by Patrick at the development and designed phase and is now mainstreamed with the oversite of the ERYICA Quality Label Working Group and under Patrick’s chairmanship also.
Patrick and his team of newly appointed board members and the ERYICA Secretariate in Brussels, have an ambitious agenda to implement over the coming years including
- The expansion of youth information services (both face to face and online) in EU and Council Of Europe countries
- A culture on continuous improvement in services under the expanded implementation of the quality label.
- The greater participation of young people in the designed and delivery of youth information.
- The ongoing professional development and training of youth information staff.
As the first Irish person to be elected to this important role, Youth Work Ireland is committed to supporting him in whatever way possible in his presidency and to advocating for the further development and resourcing of youth information provision in Ireland and beyond.
